"Celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community in Owatonna, Minnesota"
Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual observance on November 20th that honors the memory of the transgender people who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence. This year, there is staggering number of deaths. Since November 21, 2022 to now, 332 transgender people have been killed around the world, with a total of 19 deaths in the United States.
During this gathering, we will be making lanterns to honor all of those we have lost, we will learn some of the stories of those who were killed, we will have a reading of the names of the dead, we will have poems and prayers. Through the gathering, we will be reflecting on how we can do our part to create equity, safety, and community for our transgender siblings here in Minnesota and around the world.
